Students will have stand alone literacy instruction for Reading and Writing through the Workshop Model and will also read and write and apply what they are learning in the Unit of Inquiry.
Reading
This term in reading, students are focusing on choosing Just Right books and practicing reading skills through the Reader's Workshop Model. This term we are reading Realistic Fiction books to connect with characters and help us in our Narrative Writing.

Accuracy: Students read the words accurately.
Fluency: Students read smoothly and accurately and can understand what they’re reading.
Expanding Vocabulary: Students know, find and use interesting words.
Comprehension: Students understand what they’re reading.
We will be practicing these skills for Comprehension all year long.

Writing
This term we are focusing on the Narrative genre for writing. Students will be writing and publishing personal narratives stories. They will work through the entire writing process.

Students will also have the opportunity to study spelling through our spelling program Words their Way. They will work with different types of word sorts to develop and expand on current spelling skills.
